Finnish Textile & Fashion has launched a new Carbon Neutral Textile Industry 2035 commitment, which provides concrete tools and assistance for companies in the industry to mitigate climate change. OpenCO2net has developed a carbon footprint calculator for the textile industry related to this commitment. 

Finnish Textile & Fashion is helping the textile industry become emission-free by launching the Carbon Neutral Textile Industry 2035 commitment. Companies joining the commitment receive concrete assistance in their carbon neutrality efforts: they are offered training related to emission calculations and reductions, as well as an OpenCO2.net-based carbon footprint calculator tailored to the needs of the industry. 

“Calculating the carbon footprint requires special expertise, and finding reliable emission factors is often difficult and laborious. To make the work easier for companies in the textile industry, we provide a carbon footprint calculator tailored to the industry for companies joining the commitment. The emission factors are selected by experts, and the calculations are made as simple as possible.”, says Satumaija Levón, Chief Advisor of Sustainability and Circular Economy at the Finnish Textile & Fashion. 

The release of the calculator was preceded by a pilot phase, during which OpenCO2net, Finnish Textile & Fashion, and pilot companies collaborated to develop the calculator to be as clear and user-friendly as possible for industry stakeholders.

The carbon footprint calculator compliant with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol standards helps companies identify their most significant emission sources, monitor emission trends, and develop actions towards carbon neutrality. Companies joining the commitment receive the Carbon Neutral Textile logo to support their communication. In addition, they can utilize it, for example, in their sustainability reporting or on their websites. 

The commitment is open to all textile industry companies, and joining does not require membership in Finnish Textile & Fashion. Read more here.
